COMMITTEES

Professional Development/Student Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist KCPA's Professional Development Director in providing information to our student members and other students in the Metropolitan area regarding the scholarship(s) provided yearly by KCPA. They will also help coordinate the KCPA Seminar held yearly in September, including assisting in locating speakers on current educational topics, determination of location, preparing the agenda, and providing items needed to members for their CLE needs and requirements.

Finance Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist the Treasurer in any way needed to maintain the budget of the KCPA.

Membership Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist the First Vice President in recruiting new members for KCPA, and any other items needed by the First Vice President.

Newsletter Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist KCPA's Newsletter Editor in the preparation and distribution of the ParaView, monthly. This will include gathering information, articles, and other pertinent information for the ParaView. They will also assist in preparing flyers for luncheons and other similar events to be published in the ParaView and other outlets of media for KCPA.

Nominations Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist KCPA's Policy Director in preparing and distributing nomination forms for the KCPA elections for eligible board positions. They will also assist in contacting the nominees to notify them of their nomination and address any questions related to serving on the Board.

Programs Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist the Second Vice President in the planning of the KCPA luncheons and other social activities, including contact with venues and potential speakers.

Public Relations Committee - The member(s) of this committee will assist the Public Relations Director in preparing and posting job ads, placement of advertisements received from vendors, and other items needed by the Public Relations Director.

Awards Committee – The members of this committee will review nominations of the membership to select a vendor to receive the Vendor of the Year Award at the annual Vendor Showcase and a paralegal to receive the Standing Ovation Award at the annual Holiday Luncheon.

SECTIONS

Bankruptcy Section - The member(s) of this section will focus their attention on current matters related to bankruptcy law topics. 

Corporate & Real Estate Section - The member(s) of this section will discuss current corporate and real estate law topics, including but not limited to: contract work, business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, business start-up, corporate operations, banking and finance, securities, bonds, other current topics relating to corporate law, and different areas of real estate law as well as different types of properties, transactions, and relationships.

Criminal Law Section - The member(s) of this section will discuss current criminal litigation topics, including but not limited to: any updates to the State and Federal Rules as they relate to criminal law on the State and Federal levels, criminal trial subpoenas, criminal trials, preparing for a criminal trial, and other relevant topics relating to criminal law.

Disability Law Section - The members(s) of this section will focus their attention on current disability law topics.

Family Law Section - The members(s) of this section will focus their attention on current matters related to family law topics.

Intellectual Property Section - The member(s) of this section will focus their attention on current matters related to legal substance within the intellectual property market. 

Litigation Section - The member(s) of this section will discuss current litigation topics, including but not limited to: any updates to the State and Federal rules, filing in the Courts, updated e-discovery issues, how to work a case up, preparing for a successful trial, and other relevant topics relating to litigation.

Probate and Estate Planning Section - The member(s) of this section will discuss current probate and estate planning law topics.

Pro Bono & Community Service Section - The member(s) of this section will spread the word to KCPA's members about Pro Bono opportunities in the community by means of the ParaView, emails to members, and social media related sites for KCPA. They will also assist in preparing KCPA-specific events for helping out the community. (i.e. Harvesters, Food for the Bar).

Student Section - The member(s) of this section will keep KCPA updated on the local Missouri and Kansas accredited paralegal programs and assist KCPA's Professional Development Director in spreading the word about the scholarship(s) offered by KCPA to our student members.
